Single-file dynamics is a characteristic feature of systems where the size of particles is comparable with the diameter of channels in which they move diffusively. If such a quasi one-dimensional system is kept far from equilibrium by forcing a stationary particle current, unexpected critical phenomena may emerge which have no equilibrium analogue. We present a brief overview of recent results and discuss in some more detail the occurrence of phase separation and associated condensation dynamics.
