Research interests

The research of my group is in the branch of theoretical physics termed "Condensed Matter" (which includes solids and fluids), that seeks to understand the properties of materials from a microscopic basis. The last two decades have been a time of much progress in this area, driven primarily by the experimental discovery of a number of new, technologically important materials. Many of the interesting properties of these solids arise from strong interactions between the electrons in the crystals. This area of "Strongly Correlated Electrons" has become one of the most interesting, active, and intellectually challenging fields in Condensed Matter Physics. Particularly fascinating is the collective quantum dynamics of a very large number of electrons, leading to many surprising novel phenomena at low temperatures.
