Research group Michael Scherer

The research of our group is focused on the exploration of various aspects of interactions and phase transitions in Condensed Matter Physics, Quantum Field Theories and Particle Physics. To that end, we employ modern quantum field theoretical methods, e.g., perturbative and functional renormalisation group approaches. Check out the research section to learn more!

If you're interested in joining the group for example for a Master thesis, please contact me.

About myself:
Since April 2017, I am a junior group leader at the Institute for Theoretical Physics in Cologne where I am associated with Prof. Diehl's research group. Before coming to Cologne, I was a member of the Institute for Theoretical Physics in Heidelberg where I also did my Habilitation in 2015 and lectured as a Privatdozent. In 2016, I enjoyed an extended stay at SFU Burnaby in Vancouver, Canada, as a DFG research fellow hosted by Igor Herbut. From 2010 to 2012 I was a postdoc in Carsten Honerkamp's group at RWTH Aachen University. I did my PhD studies under the supervision of Holger Gies at the Theoretisch-Physikalische Institut in Jena where I received the PhD award for excellent scientific performance for my thesis.
